The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a globally recognised framework that helps companies set science-based emission reduction goals designed to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels, in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement.
The SBTi plays a role in driving corporate action toward meaningful and measurable reductions in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
Whilst many members of Rutland Forums have adopted SBTi or SBTi aligned targets, some sectors have found the standards harder to align to.
In this session Pendar Ostovar from SBTi presented:
Brief introduction
• Progress in terms of target adoption in the UK and globally
• Key drivers and motivations for SBTi climate target setting
• Evolution of SBTi’s standards architecture
• Proposed:
Changes to the flagship Corporate Net Zero Standard
Features of the upcoming Financial Institutions Standard
